How Do You Calculate Sheet Metal, Profile and Metal Weight?
Practical formula-based weight calculations for sheet metal, profiles and steel
Material weight calculations are essential for manufacturing costs, logistics planning and steel structure assessment.
The basic formula for metal weight is volume × material density. Use Özerol Mühendislik's free weight calculator for convenient preliminary estimates.
Sheet Metal Weight Formula
Formula: Width (m) × Length (m) × Thickness (mm) × Density (g/cm³) = Weight (kg).
Example: Using a steel density of 7.85 g/cm³, a 1 m × 2 m × 2 mm sheet weighs 1 × 2 × 2 × 7.85 = 31.4 kg.
Pipe and Profile Weight Calculation
For pipes, calculate the material cross-sectional area from the outside diameter and wall thickness, then multiply by length and density using consistent units.
For hollow sections, NPI and NPU profiles, use the cross-sectional area or standard weight tables.
